I don’t know about you but I watched the opening ceremonies for the summer olympics last night. There’s just something special about the Olympics. It not only brings the world together but it’s always an amazing place where amazing people with amazing stories come together. The olympic torch (story here) made its way to London and the story of how the torch gets to it’s destination is a story in and of itself.
One of the things Kobe Bryant said was that he feels like a kid in a candy store being around so many other great athletes and getting to watch them train and talk to them. His exact words, “The Olympics for me is a great chance to learn from the worlds best and figure out what makes them tick.”
I don’t know about you but I love talking to others who have excelled at their craft, build successful businesses, or who have accomplished special things. In the world of small business owners and small business credit lending we focus on helping small business owners obtain the right small business loans and small business lines of credit for their business. Ironically, our business is probably much like the world of athletics. There are many consultants, brokers, professionals, etc. but few would make it to the olympics if there was such a thing as a Small Business Olympics and one of the categories was credit & lending. Interesting idea huh!
The olympics brings everyone together, you have the best of the best in every sport, playing hard, competing hard, and competing the right way with good sportsmanship. That’s what’s great about the olympics and it’s also what we, as small business owners, can learn from the olympics. We may not be able to all come together in London but we can compete hard and play fair.
So I would encourage you to enjoy the greatest games in the world. Watch some amazing athletes. You can probably find some people to follow on Twitter while you’re at it. Personally, I can’t wait to see the men’s hoop team take home Gold. I want to watch the women’s gymnastics team – who was on the cover of Sports Illustrated! I want to see Usain Bolt put on a show in the 100 & 200 and I wouldn’t mind seeing a Gold from Lolo Jones (after all, she’s from Iowa so I’m cheering for her no matter what)!
